Review Battery Tender Motorcycle Parts

We have three motorbike battery chargers in the webBikeWorld garage that have been in constant use since about 2000, but I have just realized that in all this time we never ran a battery charger review article.

They became such an essential tool that we’ve probably taken them for granted and overlooked the possibility that webBikeWorld visitors may be interested in learning more .

The three units are matching Battery Tender plus chargers, and we haven’t experienced a single issue with them since they were first unpacked and turned on just about five years ago. each new bike that comes into the garage gets a semi-permanent harness attached to its battery so it can be simply connected to a Battery Tender.

The systems will charge the battery when mandatory and then they may continuously monitor the battery’s condition, turning on the charging mode again when necessary.
This is true for both the Battery Tender ( manufactured by Deltran Corporation ) and for the Battery Doc ( manufactured by Operating Tech Electronics, Inc. ).

Since most motorbikes are not ridden each day, and since bike batteries, talking generally, appear to be, shall we are saying, less robust than their automotive battery counterparts, it’s a brilliant idea to keep the bike on a battery charger whenever it isn’t being ridden, no matter what type of battery is installed.

The Battery Doc : Charging unit ( center ) ; carry case, instructions, battery harness ( lower left ), clips for brief attachment to battery ( bottom center ), accessory plug ( slightly under charging unit ) and electric wire at higher left. Traditional wet cell batteries need routine maintenance checks to make sure that the water level in each cell is correct.
Whenever I purchase a used motorcycle, one of the first things I do is to replace the lead/acid battery with a maintenance-free type.

I have had great luck with WestCo maintenance-free bike batteries ( see the wBW article on installing a maintenance-free battery ) and have used them with good results on many bikes.
I have a kind of phobia about bike battery issues, likely caused by let down by too many 6-Volt electric systems many years ago. Another good reason to use a bike battery charger is to extend the potential lifespan of the battery itself. Bike batteries take a lot of abuse, from heat and vibration to feeble charging systems and too many power-draining accessories.

Deltran Corporation, the makers of the Battery Tender, say that’Laboratory tests have shown that consistent use of any Deltran Battery Tender can add as much as three to four times ordinary battery charge lifespan ( 5 to seven years is not weird ) .’
The Battery Tender and has a helpful blinking light that indicates what’s taking place after the bike is connected. After a long ride, when I connect the Battery Tender, the red light sometimes comes on to tell me that it’s investigating the state of the battery’s charge. The green light then typically starts blinking within seconds, meaning that the battery is being charged.
